PUNCLASSIC is a compound word formed from PUNK and CLASSIC.
It is a concept that has continued since the early days of the brand and, together with WESTERNOCK and GOTHUAL, represents the direction of design that NOIR LARMES pursues.
The image of punk we imagined in our younger years was closely associated with direct and powerful expressions such as torn clothing, graffiti, and studs. Today, however, we do not believe punk must necessarily come from visual extremity alone. Adding a single unfamiliar detail to a familiar product, or replacing a conventionally used material with something entirely different, can also become a punk attitude by subtly disrupting an established order.
From this perspective, the fundamental language of the traditional trench coat has been preserved, while its familiar cotton gabardine has been replaced with genuine leather. Based on the classic construction of the trench coat — including the double-breasted front, belt, and epaulets — the length and angle of the epaulets, as well as the overall coat length and proportions, have been adjusted and reconstructed into a form unique to NOIR LARMES.
The punk expressed by PUNCLASSIC is closer to creating a subtle sense of dissonance within the order of classicism. Punk, classic, and luxury may appear to be opposing ideas, but allowing their boundaries to coexist within a single design is the direction that PUNCLASSIC pursues.
Through 17 years of collaboration with the Italian tannery Only Frank, Noir Larmes has independently developed the premium ARTHUR article, built on a tannin-tanned foundation.
ARTHUR leather is a vegetable-tanned article produced using only carefully selected full-grain hides, with tannin, mimosa, and quebracho as its primary tanning materials. Compared to conventional vegetable-tanned leathers that emphasize the natural characteristics of the material, ARTHUR is a premium lambskin developed with enhanced softness to the touch and a richer surface luster. Wax and oils are added to the crust leather, followed by an additional two-day drum process in natural oak barrels.
During this process, oils and waxes naturally permeate the leather, after which the material undergoes two to three passes through a high-temperature roller ironing machine, creating a firm and structurally solid finish.
Because every stage of production requires exceptional care to preserve both the leather’s unique character and its natural qualities, ARTHUR undergoes prolonged inspection throughout each process, unlike conventional leather production. Rather than relying on the rapid drying methods of dry machines commonly used in standard vegetable leather manufacturing, it is completed with an air-dry finishing process that prioritizes a more natural result.
