SHRUNKEN ANILINE DISTRESS is a leather article made from vegetable-tanned shrunken aniline lambskin by the French tannery JOQUEVIEL & CATHALA, enhanced with a distinctive distressed effect.

It is produced through a vegetable tanning process using tannins derived from natural plant sources such as bark, leaves, and roots. The leather is characterized by the combination of naturally shrunken grain and a vintage-inspired distressed coloration.

Shrunken leather is created by allowing the hide to contract during the tanning and finishing processes, which brings out the leather’s natural grain more distinctly. This process forms a dimensional surface with a subtle bubbled texture, while each skin develops its own unique grain flow and tactile character.

SHRUNKEN ANILINE DISTRESS builds on this shrunken leather base by adding a distressed effect through natural friction inside the drum. As the leather rotates, the surface is gently abraded in an organic manner, selectively lightening certain areas and creating a naturally aged contrast in color.

This process does not rely on mechanically repeated patterns or artificial finishing layers applied over the surface. As a result, variations in color depth, brightness, and distressed expression occur naturally from skin to skin, and these individual differences are an essential part of the character of SHRUNKEN ANILINE DISTRESS.

Its minimally finished, drum-dyed condition also preserves the natural hand and rich texture inherent to the original hide. Because both the shrunken surface and distressed coloration reveal the quality of the raw material more clearly, it is difficult to achieve a high-quality result using lower-grade hides.
