Action pleats at the back provide greater freedom of movement. The rear is constructed with divided panels instead of an elasticated section, allowing the lower silhouette to maintain its shape even when the front zipper is worn open.
SHRUNKEN ANILINE is a vegetable-tanned shrunken aniline lambskin article produced by the French tannery JOQUEVIEL & CATHALA.
It is made using a vegetable tanning process that utilizes tannins derived from natural plant sources such as bark, leaves, and roots. The leather is characterized by its naturally shrunken grain and the rich, deep texture distinctive to aniline leather.
Shrunken leather is created by allowing the hide to contract during the tanning and finishing processes, bringing out the leather’s natural grain more distinctly. This process forms a dimensional surface texture with a subtle bubbled appearance, while each skin develops its own unique grain pattern and tactile character.
Vegetable-tanned shrunken leather combines the natural aging characteristics of vegetable tanning with the pronounced dimensional texture of shrunken grain. Compared with conventional leather, it offers greater depth and individuality, gradually evolving over time according to the wearer’s environment and patterns of use.
In addition, its minimally finished, drum-dyed condition preserves the natural hand and rich texture inherent to the original hide.
While many conventional leathers rely on surface embossing, coatings, or artificial finishing treatments to create texture, SHRUNKEN ANILINE enhances the natural movement and irregularity of the hide’s own grain, resulting in a more organic and dimensional surface.
Because a shrunken surface reveals the quality of the raw material more clearly, it is difficult to achieve a high-quality result using lower-grade hides. SHRUNKEN ANILINE is therefore a premium leather that requires carefully selected raw hides, precise control throughout the tanning process, and highly skilled craftsmanship.
*SHRUNKEN ANILINE is a natural, drum-dyed leather with little to no artificial coating or surface finishing. Due to the nature of the material, slight color transfer may occur when it is exposed to prolonged friction against light-colored clothing, bags, or other items. The possibility of color transfer may increase in rain, humidity, perspiration, or high-temperature environments, so care should be taken during wear and storage.
