HAYWARD began with the idea of imagining the everyday off-stage style of rock musicians in the 1970s.
Behind the bold Western influence and flamboyant glam style that defined the 1970s rock scene, there was also another side to these musicians: away from the stage, they often embraced a more relaxed and refined way of dressing.
HAYWARD translates that atmosphere of the era and the distinctive stylishness of rock musicians into the form of a leather blouson, imagining the kind of daily wear they might have naturally chosen in their everyday lives.
The overall silhouette is kept relaxed and concise, while shoulder epaulets at the front, a neck collar buckle, a pointed yoke at the back, and cuff zippers at the sleeve ends introduce a restrained decorative character.
Rather than referencing flamboyant stagewear, HAYWARD reinterprets the everyday style of a rock musician off stage through the perspective of NOIR LARMES.
Through 17 years of collaboration with the Italian tannery Only Frank, Noir Larmes has independently developed the premium ARTHUR article, built on a tannin-tanned foundation.
ARTHUR leather is a vegetable-tanned article produced using only carefully selected full-grain hides, with tannin, mimosa, and quebracho as its primary tanning materials. Compared to conventional vegetable-tanned leathers that emphasize the natural characteristics of the material, ARTHUR is a premium lambskin developed with enhanced softness to the touch and a richer surface luster. Wax and oils are added to the crust leather, followed by an additional two-day drum process in natural oak barrels.
During this process, oils and waxes naturally permeate the leather, after which the material undergoes two to three passes through a high-temperature roller ironing machine, creating a firm and structurally solid finish.
Because every stage of production requires exceptional care to preserve both the leather’s unique character and its natural qualities, ARTHUR undergoes prolonged inspection throughout each process, unlike conventional leather production. Rather than relying on the rapid drying methods of dry machines commonly used in standard vegetable leather manufacturing, it is completed with an air-dry finishing process that prioritizes a more natural result.
