LOU is a leather blouson designed with the image of bands and musicians active in New York’s underground scene from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s in mind.
Drawing on the free-spirited and unconventional attitude of the underground music culture of the era, the design focuses not on reproducing a specific period style, but on reinterpreting it through the language of NOIR LARMES.
Both the front and back feature gently shaped V-form Western Yokes, a detail rarely seen in conventional leather blousons. The cropped length and banded hem create the relaxed silhouette characteristic of a blouson, while the back omits elastic banding and is instead constructed with divided leather panels, allowing the lower shape to remain structured even when the zipper is worn open.
At the chest, Jetted Pockets with Ball Chain Zipper Pullers introduce a vintage leatherwear character. Die Cutting is applied to the collar strap, while exposed cut edges are finished with Edge Painting for a precise and refined finish.
Within the clean, cropped form of the blouson, elements of Western leatherwear and vintage detailing are incorporated with restraint, resulting in a jacket that combines effortless wearability with a distinctly free-spirited character.
Through 17 years of collaboration with the Italian tannery Only Frank, Noir Larmes has independently developed the premium ARTHUR article, built on a tannin-tanned foundation.
ARTHUR leather is a vegetable-tanned article produced using only carefully selected full-grain hides, with tannin, mimosa, and quebracho as its primary tanning materials. Compared to conventional vegetable-tanned leathers that emphasize the natural characteristics of the material, ARTHUR is a premium lambskin developed with enhanced softness to the touch and a richer surface luster. Wax and oils are added to the crust leather, followed by an additional two-day drum process in natural oak barrels.
During this process, oils and waxes naturally permeate the leather, after which the material undergoes two to three passes through a high-temperature roller ironing machine, creating a firm and structurally solid finish.
Because every stage of production requires exceptional care to preserve both the leather’s unique character and its natural qualities, ARTHUR undergoes prolonged inspection throughout each process, unlike conventional leather production. Rather than relying on the rapid drying methods of dry machines commonly used in standard vegetable leather manufacturing, it is completed with an air-dry finishing process that prioritizes a more natural result.
