Rooted in 1960s British motorcycle culture, the café racer jacket began with a stripped-back construction that eliminated ornamentation in favor of function. Its single-zip structure, silhouette designed to minimize air resistance, and the refined form of a stand collar represent an aesthetic shaped by speed and practicality.
This model is based on that original café racer archetype, while reconfiguring the front composition through the integration of hardware elements drawn from the double rider jacket. Multiple zip details and a flap coin pocket add visual density, while a horizontal chest yoke, rarely seen in traditional café racer jackets, creates a more defined upper-body proportion.
The chest yoke line, lower hem band, and square flap pocket establish a cohesive front composition through the consistent interplay of horizontal and vertical lines. The structure was designed around the flow of these lines, ensuring the complexity of the hardware elements remains visually controlled rather than scattered.
At Noir Larmes, through 17 years of collaboration with the Italian tannery Only Frank, we developed Asportato Full Grain Vegetable Lambskin based on Vegetable Tanning using environmentally conscious raw materials, creating a Distress effect.
Compared to conventional Asportato Lambskin tanned on a chrome (chemical dye) basis, this article is distinguished by its superior quality and a rough effect that appears less artificial.
The Asportato article begins with a ground dyeing process using contrasting colors on the front and reverse sides of the leather. The grain surface is then spray-dyed using a mixture of chemical agents and color dyes that can be removed with acetone,
allowing selected areas of the grain surface color to be stripped away through chemical treatment so that the ground color emerges beneath. Through additional surface removal work, a natural and vintage effect is created.
Crafted from Full Grain vegetable lambskin, it offers the firm thickness and supple touch characteristic of the durable ALTO type.
Vegetable Tanning (tannin type) is an environmentally conscious tanning method rooted in traditional craftsmanship, using plant-based tanning agents through a manual tanning process. Due to the inherent characteristics of tannin-tanned leather, it develops a more distinctive patina over time while expressing the natural texture of genuine leather.
*Due to the nature of the hand-finishing process, in which the surface color is manually removed, the Distressed-effect varies from piece to piece.
